Vacancies: Sisters Subcommittee Members

Introduction

Swansea Mosque is the largest mosque in Wales serving almost 10,000 Muslim congregation in South and West Wales, a dramatic increase since its humble beginning in 1982. Over the last couple of years, it has developed to become a lively and spirited Mosque, seeking to encapsulate the very ideals on which it now thrives as opposed to being simply a place of worship. Located in the heart of Swansea with a very diverse and multicultural community.

Sisters Subcommittee

The sisters’ subcommittee is an opportunity for Swansea sisters to have a structured and supported platform to communicate the diverse needs of Muslim women within the community. Swansea mosque recognizes there is a lack in women led services for women by women and that the creation of a sister’s subcommittee will help deliver the services most needed. This subcommittee will be supported by Swansea Mosque to implement and structure changes that will help improve sisters' access to support and learning in a number of areas. The vision is to bring the voice of Swansea sisters on a platform that will inshallah be empowered to make beneficial changes.

We are looking to strengthen support through the delivery of various activities and programs but not limited to:

  • Islamic and other Educational and Learning Programs
  • Career support and learning new skills
  • Training
  • Social activities and engagement
  • Mother and toddler groups
  • Health & Wellbeing activities
  • Sports activities
  • Support & Advice
  • New Muslim sisters support
  • Volunteering

The Subcommittee will consist of no more than six sisters who are residents of Swansea. The group will be looking to represent Swansea’s Muslim female demographics.

We are looking for representation, amongst others:

  • Females of different age such as sisters aged 16-25 years old to represent the Youth Muslim females.
  • Females from 26+ who may have parental responsibilities for young and older children.
  • Our 50+ aged sisters articulate needs of the older females
  • Different ethnic background
  • Mother and toddler groups
  • Health & Wellbeing activities
  • Sports activities
  • Support & Advice
  • New Muslim sisters support

The six sisters selected will then be given roles and responsibilities and will be able to recruit their own small group of volunteers to help them deliver their programs and services. This will enable wider participation of sisters from all age groups.
