The Message of Nuh (AS)
The Prophet Nuh (AS), known as the first messenger and the second father of humanity after Adam (AS), is mentioned many times throughout the Qur’an.
Allah sent him to his people with the same core message brought by every prophet: worship Allah alone, develop taqwa (awareness of Allah), and follow the guidance that Allah has revealed.
Nuh (AS) called his people with mercy, patience, and sincerity. He wanted to save them from punishment and guide them towards success. His duty was simply to convey the truth clearly and sincerely.
Worship, Taqwa, and Obedience Bring Blessings
Nuh (AS) taught his people that worshipping Allah, developing taqwa, and obeying the messenger would bring tremendous blessings.
Allah would forgive their sins and place barakah in their lives.
He also reminded them that every person has a fixed time of death. When that appointed time arrives, it cannot be delayed even for a moment.
Every lifespan has already been written by Allah before a person is born.
This serves as a reminder that life in this dunya is temporary, no matter how long it appears to be.
The Prophet ﷺ taught that the average lifespan of this ummah is between sixty and seventy years. Compared to eternity, our stay here is extremely short.
Sudden Death and Preparing for the Hereafter
People often become occupied with wealth, work, comfort, and daily responsibilities, forgetting how suddenly death can arrive.
A person may appear healthy and full of plans for the future, but unexpectedly the news comes that they have passed away.
The Prophet ﷺ warned that as the Day of Judgment approaches, sudden deaths would become more common.
Believers are therefore reminded to prepare constantly for the Hereafter rather than living as though this world will last forever.
Living Like a Traveler
The Prophet ﷺ advised believers to live in this world like strangers or travelers passing through.
A traveler does not become overly attached to a temporary stop.
A powerful example is that of someone staying in a hotel for only two nights but spending huge amounts decorating the room. People would consider this foolish because the stay is temporary.
Likewise, this dunya is temporary, while the Hereafter is eternal.
Benefit from this world, but do not become attached to it to the point that you forget your final destination.
Visiting the Graveyard Softens the Heart
The Prophet ﷺ encouraged visiting graveyards because they remind people of death and the Hereafter.
Visiting graves softens the heart, creates humility, and encourages reflection.
One day every person will be placed in the grave. After the funeral, everyone will leave while the individual remains alone with their deeds.
At that moment, wealth, status, and worldly possessions will no longer matter. What will matter are the deeds prepared for the Hereafter.
This is why the true investment is not merely worldly success, but deeds that continue to benefit a person after death.
The Tears of a Believer
Among the seven people who will be shaded by Allah on the Day of Judgment is the person who remembers Allah privately and sheds tears out of sincerity and fear of Allah.
A soft heart that reflects on death, the Hereafter, and one’s relationship with Allah is a sign of faith.
Even if someone struggles to cry, they should still strive for humility, reflection, and concern for their akhirah.
Conclusion
The story of Nuh (AS) reminds believers that life is temporary, death is certain, and the Hereafter is eternal.
Despite calling his people for centuries, many still ignored the message and turned away.
Believers are encouraged not to become distracted by the dunya, but instead to live with awareness of death, prepare for the Hereafter, and invest in deeds that will continue to benefit them long after this life ends.
